Marian was a cherished friend and Advisory Board Member of Kinship/Seneca for over 15 years. As an advocate for underprivileged children, she was remarkably generous with her time and expertise and tireless in her lifelong efforts to improve educational outcomes for all of California's children.
Marian had an extraordinary career as a California public official. She was a member of the State Legislature from 1978 to 1995 and the first woman ever to serve in both the California Assembly and Senate. She served on the Orange County Board of Supervisors from 1995 to 1996 and as California's Secretary of Education from 1996 to 1999. A number of facilities are named after Marian, including the Marian Bergeson Elementary School in Laguna Niguel and the Marian Bergeson Aquatics Center in Newport Beach. Marian's abundance of grace, elegance, and love will be sorely missed by everyone who knew her.
At the request of Marian’s family, those who wish to pay tribute to Marian can make a gift in her memory to Seneca Orange County to help provide hope and healing for young people who have suffered from abuse and neglect. For more information, click here.
